Question by Michelle N: What sort of club could I create in school that has to do with religion or spirituality?

I like the topic of religion and spirituality and was wondering whether anyone has any ideas for me and if its even a good idea. someone already has a 'free-thinkers' club in my school which looks at things from a transcendentalist point of view. I want a club but something that won't cause any conflict and can be rewarding.

When young Noah Richardson sends an e-mail to the producers of the home renovation TV show, “Dream Away,” he has no idea that the host of the show, Jonathan Haynes, will be intrigued and touched by his sad story. Noah, his father, and their black lab, Tucker, have recently relocated to San Francisco to start a fresh new life and heal their wounds. And their house is in dire need of renovation. Jonathan Haynes is desperate to find an interesting house to film for the show. So he gets on a plane and flies to San Francisco the day after he reads Noah’s e-mail. But Jonathan soon finds out that Noah’s father, Ed, didn’t know about Noah’s e-mail and he has to convince him to do the show. The fact that Ed and Jonathan wind up on the living room floor having passionate sex during their first meeting doesn’t help. But Ed finally agrees to do the show and he asks his best friend, Lisa, to come out to San Francisco temporarily during the renovation to help with Noah. By the time construction begins, Ed and Jonathan can’t get enough of each other. They start having secret encounters to satisfy their desires, never realizing they are both building a solid relationship at the same time. Then a series of events takes control of their lives that changes them all forever. Noah is devastated when Tucker runs away, Lisa falls in love unexpectedly with Jonathan’s best friend from New York, and Jonathan’s TV show is cancelled and his career takes a turn he never expected it would take. Ed’s not sure what to do. He’s in love with Jonathan, and he can’t get enough of Jonathan’s body. But he feels guilty about starting a new relationship with anyone. So he wrestles with the conflict and begs for a sign to help him decide what to do, which leads to a surprise ending that none of them could have predicted.

The Promise: How God Works All Things Together for Good

In The Promise, best-selling author Robert J. Morgan (Then Sings My Soul) reveals the remarkable power of a single Bible verse—Romans 8:28 (Â"We know that all things work together for the good of those who love God”) that will give readers an unshakable basis for confidence and joy.

Filled with real-life illustrations of triumph over tragedy, The Promise not only empowers us to deal effectively with everyday stress and strain, but offers solid assurance to anyone facing serious trouble. In his personable style, Morgan shares strong techniques for reversing misfortunes, finding purpose in painful situations, and turning discouragement into resilience.

Here is a book to use for yourself and share with others in every hour of need. Major sections of The Promise include All Things Work Together . . . : For Our Good; For the Good of Others; For the Deepening of the Soul; For the Glory of God; For the Spreading of the Gospel; In Human History; In the Cemetery; Because of Jesus.

Endorsements:

"Rob Morgan never disappoints me. His books do what a good book should do:  make you think about life from a new and fresh perspective. The Promise is a brand new treatment of an old and enduring verse. After you have finished reading it, put it where you can find it. If you don't need it, someone you love will!" -David Jeremiah, author of Signs of Life: Back to the Basics of Authentic Christianity

Â"For years Robert Morgan has inspired me with his pastoral insights and heartfelt storytelling. In The Promise, he celebrates the mystery and power of one of the Bible’s most poignant verses. Thoughtful, inspiring, and comforting, this book will help Christians find hope and encouragement as they live out their part in God’s glorious story.”

—Steven James, storyteller and award-winning author of Story: Recapture the Mystery

Â"In The Promise Rob Morgan has put walking shoes on Romans 8:28. He has then walked it through life situations making application along the journey. With laser point accuracy he has focused our attention where it should be – on Â'God’ who works all things together for our good rather than on "things" that we too often dwell upon.”

—Jim Mullen, managing director, Billy Graham Evangelistic Association

Science and Christianity: Conflict or Coherence?

Science and Christianity: Conflict or Coherence?

Known the world over, Dr. Schaefer's world-renowned university lectures have been expanded into full-length essays. Focusing on explaining how a person can be both a believer in Christ and a follower of science, Dr. Schaefer compares and contrasts the tenets of the two extremes. Thus we have a first-hand account of the lively (and timely) science vs. Christianity discussions by one of the major participants in the topic.

In addition to addressing mind-boggling questions (Does God exist? Is there meaning in Life?), the book also describes how Dr. Schaefer became a Christian as a young professor of chemistry at the University of California at Berkeley, and how this momentous decision affected his career path. Throughout, the book retains the highly personal character of the university lectures and a delightful sense of humor.

An intensely personal account of the lively current dialogue between science and religion.

One of the world's great physical scientists addresses many of the current controversies between science and religion

Does science tell us anything about ultimate questions? What is life? Is there meaning in the universe? Does God exist?

Answer by marks3kids
Regional hospitals vary in their costs. If you have the opportunity to go to a state or university hospital, they often have programs to assist those people that don't have medical insurance. Check with your hospital to see if they have a fund to assist people like you, without insurance. Otherwise plan on spending 0 per hour that he was there, unless he was admitted. If he was admitted overnight, it will be less per hour but higher overall. Good Luck

Handbook to Life in Ancient Egypt

Handbook to Life in Ancient Egypt

The Nile Valley civilization, which spanned a period from c. 5000 B.C. to the early centuries A.D., was one of the earliest created by humankind. This handy reference provides a comprehensive overview of more than five millenia of Egyptian history and archeology, from predynastic times to the Old and New Kingdoms to the Ptolemaic and Roman periods. Accessible, authoritative, and clearly organized, the Handbook to Life in Ancient Egypt offers an engaging look at a culture whose art and architecture, religion, and medicine would come to form the basis of Western Civilization.

The thematically arranged chapters allow readers easy access to particular topics, including historical background, geography, government, religion, funerary customs, architecture, literature, the military, the economy, and everyday life. Drawing on written sources dating from c. 3100 B.C. and historical evidence including monuments, artifacts, inscriptions, and preserved human remains, Rosalie David covers everything from the Sun Cult and the pyramids to the arrival and spread of Christianity. The Handbook contains 112 maps, photographs, and original line drawings, a chronological table, an appendix listing museums with Egyptian collections, and extensive bibliographies included with each chapter.

Combining both archeological and historical sources, the Handbook to Life in Ancient Egypt provides all the essential information required by anyone interested in Egyptian history, archaeology, religions, or culture.

One of the many wonderful Dagstuhl traditions is to take Wednesday afternoon off and go for a hike in the countryside. Today was splendid for a hike (if a bit warm), and a dozen of us ventured out to explore a bit of the Saarland.

None of these have been cleaned or edited except for being shrunk to make them easier to upload en masse.
