Is it effective to take good shots outdoors and post-process some in Photoshop to do the "Dave Hill Effect"?

Dave Hill is a master of lighting. His outdoor shots are lit as meticulously with studio lighting as are his indoor shots. Whether doing Hill's processing, Dragan Effect or using Lucis Art, the control of lighting is imperative.
